During my study abroad experience in Denmark, I traveled to Prague and found this sculpture by Josef Mařatka. I took this photo and felt inspired by the emotion evoked by the sculpture. I thought it would be fun to depict this very three-dimensional figure with 2d shapes. I first broke the image down through sketching out a contour, then outlining the largest shapes. Playing with the opacity created the feel of shadows and light through the composition, and I decided on colors closer in hue to keep a harmonious tone throughout the piece. What can I say—I guess at heart, I'm a bit of a romantic.
